Very pleasantly surprised |
*** 8 Month Update at the bottom of this review ***\n\nFirst let me start by saying that overall as a brand I strongly dislike Shark. I don't have anything against them personally but the endless annoying and trashy infomercials and the fact that a lot of their older vacuums sucked beyond belief, I honestly am not too thrilled with them as a company.\n\nA few years ago I got a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser vacuum, model 3920, and very quickly became disappointed with it. It sucked well, but within minutes the plastic piece at the top, the one responsible for making the airflow rotate got clogged up with fur and the suction went down dramatically. Emptying the dust cup was the worst part of it, it made a horrible mess all over the place. I suffered with that vacuum for a couple years and ... |

Time will tell |
Like most, I was reluctant to buy this vacuum due to the Shark brand and how heavily they're pushed on infomercials. But after using the vac there are a lot of things I like about it. However, all the good things that I like are waging a battle in my brain with how damn ugly and cheap this thing looks. The pictures don't translate how bad the shiny red and silver chrome "plating" is. Oh well, at least it performs.\n\nLike a few others, I bought the Dyson DC41 to compare. I bought the Dyson the same day, opened it up and literally used it right next to the Shark. I went around the entire house and did parallel sweeps of all the large areas to get equal samples. I spent the same amount of time and went the same amount of distance with each. I then emptied each bin onto separate paper tow... |

BLOWN AWAY!! |
I have to say I am really impressed. I have had a Dyson for years. Like everyone who owns a Dyson, you think the expensive price tag equals quality. Most of the time this is true. And Dyson has quality. I was hesitant at the price tag considering it was relatively half priec of my previous vacuum.\n\nI was turned on to this unit by a professional flooring inspector. He referred me to a website that does third party testing on vacuum cleaners. This unit was the highest rated among canister vacuums. There a many which have better ratings but I will not buy a vacuum that uses bags.\n\nI opened the box and I was really pleased with the ease of assembly. Instructions are very well written.\n\nI decided to give it a run immediately. Keep in mind, it had only been a couple days since my old v... |

GAME CHANGER. Just stop looking at the other models. This is worth it (says the mom who hates sweeping 5 times a day) |
This Vacuum is a complete game changer. I have to disclose: I have never owned the all praised Dyson vacuums. But I do have the children and Pet hair they advertise about. I did a ton of research and reading of amazon reviews to decide on this Shark Rotator Lift away.\n\n1) The Lift away feature is amazing. I read reviews of the canister being too heavy- but that is why the vacuum included the Caddy to drag around. I live in a house with a lot of hardwood floors. This vacuum has helped elimate my need to sweep several times a day. I can use the regular upright attachment for the area rugs, the brush control feature really helps pick up the Black Lab hair that I have embedded in anything fabric.\n\nI use the lift away feature on my stairs every single day. I do not have carpet on these ... |

Excellent vacuum |
Actually, it's got more features than I need. I think. I'm not really sure. Do I need my upright to be able to convert to a canister vacuum? I guess if I want to use to to clean the inside of my truck, then the answer is "yes". I was torn between this $219 Shark, and a $599 Dyson. I posted the question on Facebook. The Dysons got good reviews 80% of the time, and horrible reviews the other 20, all because of reliability. Everyone that has a Shark loves it. I checked Consumer Reports, and the Shark rated higher. It also rates higher on Amazon. So, I bought this very versatile, extremely powerful, Shark. When I told our maid (why didn't I ask her before I bought it's?), she was thrilled. Many of her clients have Dysons, and she doesn't care for them. One has a Shark, and sh... |

Best vacuum I've ever had the pleasure of using! |
After reading reviews for the Dyson and Shark Rotator for weeks I went with the Rotator, more specifically the NV502 model found at Bed Bath & Beyond. It was a CINCH to assemble and I was able to use it not more than 5 minutes after opening the box. The suction on this thing is AMAZING, it practically propels itself when on the vacuum base. It's cut my vacuuming time to 1/4 of the time it took with my commercial Royal vacuum! I also own a small cleaning service with a handful of weekly accounts and its made my accounts so much easier to clean, my clients are AMAZED by how much nastiness gets pulled from their carpets (as am I).\n\nSo glad I read the review left by Michael Flux as he really did a thorough job explaining all the different models and accessories they include. Not that great |
I was hoping for a 5-star vacuum... However, this guy just didn't do it for me. Started out great, good suction and pulled up a lot of dirt. After about a month of use, it seemed to lack in suction. I empty the container after every use and it's not pulling up as much dog hair and dirt as it did in the beginning. Also, I have two daughters with long hair.... I was surprised when I tipped it over to look at the rollers. My Dyson NEVER had this problem. I've attached a photo of the hair that wrapped around the roller. Also, it's not that great on hardwood or tile floors. It does no pick up the dirt that lines the baseboard. I literally have to sweep it to the middle of the floor and then vacuum, or use the hose to get it. I might have to bite the bullet and invest in another Dyson.... Ugh! |

OH MY GOSH...THIS THING REALLY SUCKS...YOU GOTTA GET ONE!!! |
The Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away arrived yesterday afternoon and it took longer to get it out of the box than it did to put it together.\n\nI have a burgundy colored short pile area rug in the living room that has been looking rather shabby of late. It takes about an hour of vacuuming to get all the pet hair (one dog and two cats) with my Dyson Animal canister, so I thought that would be the perfect test for the Shark. Holy cow...this thing really sucks!!!! It picks up ALL the hair with only one or two passes. I did the "Mother-in-Law is coming deep clean" and it only took 15 minutes. I emptied the bin twice!!! I'm too ashamed to post pictures of all the hair and dirt the Shark pulled out of rug, you would think I have never vacuumed, ever, even though I vacuumed the day b... |

This Shark vacuum (NV341) is very nice. It vacuums up considerably more hair/dirt than the ... |
I've had this vacuum for 2.5 years (2013) and I purchased it from Target for $169. We have two kids and several animals. We used to have a Eureka with a bag but the new carpet was too thick and was burning out the motor on the Eureka. This Shark vacuum (NV341) is very nice. It vacuums up considerably more hair/dirt than the bag vacuum. Essentially, I vacuum 3 times a week a 1300 sq ft house and often the dust cup is half to full after each vacuuming event. I think the bag on the Eureka would have exploded after about a week, so I feel that our home is much cleaner. But, after two years, the two washable filters (felt and sponge) are starting to wear out and I think it is about time to replace the Hepa filter. However, I can't find replaceable foam or sponge filters; they are no... |

looks very nice and sharp |
I got the shark rotator, looks very nice and sharp; suction is great but less than 6 months after I bought it, the red clip that holds the hose in the back broke. Without the clip the vacuum hose come out every time that you try to use it and it doesn't seals correctly so there is a lot of dust everywhere Called Shark 800-798-7398, and they told that they did not have a replacement part, you can try to use it like that or call us at a later time we may have a replacement part. Or You can send us the vacuum back and we can fix it, but you have to pay shipping and both ways around $90.00, or you can pay $100.00 and we can send you a new one with another 5 years warranty.\n\nGot my new vacuum, but not accessories came, the cable in the vacuum is shorter, I called their customer service a... |

Shark vs. Dyson |
As a recent Dyson owner (DC-15 Animal), I feel like I have a pretty good comparison, so here goes:\n\nOut of the box, I thought the accessories felt cheap and plastic-y - like a child's cheap toy. I don't really expect this to be an issue, but it was hard not to notice. I can say that I really like the functionality of this vacuum - how you can just use the handle or the wand extension, how the wand comes out, etc. The exception to this is the cord clip - I forget the cord is attached to the wand and it's a bit of a hassle, but as a work-around I stopped using the clip and I just drape the cord over the arm that the cord get's stored on. That took care of any complaints there.\n\nI have to say that, hands down, this feels like it has a lot more suction than my Dyson - something I alwa... |

I purchased this 11 months ago and it stopped working today. The motor seized and there is no suction. What I should have researched before this purchase is Shark's crappy warranty which only applies to purchases made directly through their website. What a waste of a couple hundred dollars! |

Worst vacuum cleaner ever |
This is the worst vacuum cleaner I've ever purchased. Maybe I got a lemon because I read a bunch of reviews before I bought it and they all said it was great. I've only used it 5 times and the suction was awesome for the first 3 times and the last 2 it barely picks up anything. I tried to exchange it but amazons website said I had to do that by 10/2 ( I just received it on 9/2). You would think for almost $200 that it would work for more than 30 days. This is the first and last shark I will ever buy. |

Same problems that I had with my Dyson vacuum |
I have always hated how stiff the accessory hose is on my Dyson, and the fact that the machine falls over when you use it. Unfortunately, this machine does the same thing. I don't understand why these high-end vacuum designers can't seem to create one that has a convenient and stable system for using the attachment that everyone needs for getting around the edges of walls and furniture. This feature should not be an afterthought. I like that it is small and can get around furniture easily, but thank goodness it's a fairly light machine because to use it, you are essentially lifting the body of the vacuum the entire time you are vacuuming. It's hard to explain, but with other vacuums, you lean the handle back and the center of gravity is more forward, so it's still standing up on i... |

Works really well but... |
In 2014 I bought this vacuum, Shark Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away (NV501), and I loved it so much. I actually looked forward to vacuuming. But we had a house fire in October 2015 and lost everything. We finally got back into our rebuilt home. I couldn't wait to buy this vacuum again. I was mildly disappointed with a couple of noticeable differences. First of all, when the beater brush was on in the older vac, it would just pull me along with such great power. I felt like it was effortless. This new van doesn't do that. I have to use some strength to push it,. Secondly, when I use the wand, I feel like it should be a bit longer. I have to bend over just a little to reach the floor. So for those two reasons, I end up with a sore back when I'm done vacuuming. Also, the older versio... |

Not a good Vacuum |
The attachments do not all attach to the vacuum so you have to carry them around or go back to where ever you left them to get the one you need. The 3rd time I used it I ran over the cord with the vacuum and it broke the plastic coating so I had to put electrical tape over it. I have had it for 1 year and it over heats and smells like burnt rubber and wont turn on. I have to wait 20 mins for it to work again. I had to buy a new Vacuum and I went back to Kenmore. |

Great power, easy to use, nice attachments, maneuverable |
This vacuum replaces an old and heavy Hoover Wind Tunnel model. I tried to repair the Hoover, but the parts are no longer available. I hate sending stuff to the land fill, but there it goes. The first thing I noticed, obviously, was the weight. The Shark is much lighter than the old Hoover. Second, I also noticed that the head of the machine (with the brushes and all) was much less wide than the old Hoover. At first that was a tad concerning. But once I started vacuuming I quickly warmed up to the Shark. Next, I was surprised at how easy it was to maneuver. The Hoover had a power assist (something I never liked and always turned off; that made it hard to push around on thick carpet). But the Shark was very easy to push around, and the ball pivot head really makes maneuvering around fur... |

Solid, CLOG-FREE, easy to use design! Happily surprised!! |
Having grown frustrated with myself for only finding time and motivation to write a review when I'm disappointed with something, I wanted to seize this opportunity to sing the praises of this remarkable machine!\n\nWe bought this vacuum to replace an Oreck Touch which had failed . . . again. Odd thing: I've always regarded Oreck as a 'top shelf' product, and heard good things about their customer service -- while I've always perceived Shark to be a cheaply made, lower-end product... I have been proven profoundly wrong on both counts!\n\nWhile I have had no need to interact with Shark's customer service so far, I couldn't be more pleased with the thoughtful overall design, imaginatively useful features, and surprising feel of quality I'm experiencing with this vacuum.\n\nOne of our f... |

Shark vs. Dyson -- NO CONTEST -- Shark destroys the Brit and his toy. |
Three years ago we purchased a Dyson vacuum that was nearly $600 and thought we had a killer deal. Unfortunately, the vacuum seemed to overheat all the time. What we discovered was that as you cleaned, the filters filled with dust and would cause the motor to get hot. Now, you might think we needed to empty the dustbin more often, but this happened with EVERY cleaning of the carpet. Didn't matter if we cleaned the filters thoroughly before, the unit could not do our whole carpet (normal sized house) without shutting down from heat 'exhaustion'.\n\nOur daughter purchased a Shark the same time we got the Dyson and never had a problem. She has six children and a large home but her Shark never shut-down on her during working hours. In fact, she got hers the same time we purchased the Dyson... |

WHAT A LITTLE POWERHOUSE!!! |
I bought this while moving into a house which is about half carpet and half tile. I had purchased a really expensive Dyson a year ago, and it already had problems. I had lost most of the suction and once you telescoped the handle for attachments, the suction didn't work at all. So, I was ready to try something completely different.\n\nI researched this Shark and read good things about it. Since it cost so much less than the Dyson, I decided to try it. I absolutely LOVE it. It's very lightweight and easy to maneuver. Since it doesn't have Dyson's enormous ball, it easily slides beneath my sofa and other low-lying furniture. A button next to the power switch converts it back and forth from carpet to bare floor. For bare floor, the brush quits spinning, so you don't have dirt and sand ... |

Great "light-duty" vacuum. |
The Shark feels solid and is quiet enough for me to listen to the TV or radio while vacuuming. It is so maneuverable that it is actually fun to use and I love being able to simply empty the canister instead of tossing and replacing a bag.\n\nI have two dogs and after vacuuming my carpet with my Kenmore canister vacuum and Kirby upright, my Bissell carpet cleaner still clogged up with debris they left behind, so I bought this vacuum. I vacuumed a small area of my carpet that had been recently vacuumed by my other vacuums and washed with my Bissell, and the Sharp quickly filled up with dirt and debris that they left behind.\n\nI am giving this vacuum a one star review because I am tired of having to unclog it and the motor overheats with prolonged use and it losses all suction until I le... |

Not for denser carpets. |
Let me start by saying that I really liked how this vacuum worked on my old carpet. However we just purchased new carpet which has denser pile. The problem is since there is no height adjustment you can't push this on denser carpet. I was also told by the person at the carpet store that without a height adjustment it would wear out even the most durable carpet since the beater bar is so low. I called Shark customer service but since I purchased it over a month ago I couldn't return it.I was willing to return it and purchase a more expensive model with an adjustment but since I had it for 40 days I was past the return date. The only two solutions they had to offer was either shut off the beater bar or open the suction control. Either of those choices defeats the purpose of a good vacuu... |

Love this Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away! |
Let me start by saying we are replacing an eight year old Sears Intuition canister vacuum. We vacuumed our rugs first with the old Sears machine then vacuumed again with the new Shark Rotator. My goodness! We could not believe all the dirt that we could see going into that canister of the Shark! We were amazed that we had been living with all of that dirt! We love the fact that this Shark is easy to put together, easy to use and so easy to move around. It did an amazing job on our rugs and our hardwood floors. We tried it on the carpeted stairs and it worked really well. It has plenty of power and suction. I am excited to use this machine on our floors and also furniture too. I love that it is a lift away. Ours came with a caddy to put the canister in when using attachments. It is not... |

Good vacuum, MUCH better than a Hoover |
So far, so good. I've used it 3 times to vaccum my whole downstairs. I have all tile and hardwood. It doesn't seem to leave anything behind from what I can tell. It's very heavy, but moves smoothly. The cord is long enough for me. It stays upright and doesn't fall over for me like other reviewers have said. The attachments are very handy and I've already used all of them (for the couch, under the couch, baseboards, area rugs, etc.) The vaccum is way too powerful to work on area rugs, I have to use an attachment and even that it rough on it, which just means good suction so can't complain. The canister is pretty easy to empty, and I've already rinsed out the foam filter, and will probably do so after every few uses. I've learned the hard way that if you don't continually clean the foam ... |

... clean houses for a living and this is the best affordable vacuum option around |
I clean houses for a living and this is the best affordable vacuum option around. There are two things I don't like, the Shark brand vacuum is a little top heavy and inclined to tilt if you don't be careful. This particular model did not come with dust away attachment which is absolutely the best for hardwood floors. I called Shark and they shipped me one at no cost. The company I bought this through on Amazon did a great job. I received the vacuum in less time than predicted and everything was great. Highly recommend this vacuum on a budget (and the Miele if you have hella money... The Dyson sucks, and not literally). |

I have used this vacuum now for 2 months. It has been great. I have 3 dogs and a husband so I have dog hair, dirt, and leaves being tracked in. The shark is easy to maneuver. The best, suckiest vacuum ever |
This thing sucks. I mean... really, really sucks. We decided to do a test and vacuum the house with our old Dirt Devil bagless canister vacuum first... then with this one. I must say absolutely amazing on how much this thing sucks. After first round with the old, then second round with the new, we had to empty the canister 5 TIMES to complete the house. Really made us realize how bad the other vacuum didn't suck. Best vacuum I have ever used. The width of the vacuum is smaller than we are used to but it's quieter with lots of fun attachments. The lift off system allows you to pick it right off of the beater base and hit the stairs or any other area for a quick suck. the wand and works easy and has two different positions - the short handle or the entire length of wand. Must say - real... |

Shark products are all GARBAGE. We have owned a few, suckered in by their slick advertising, and ALL were JUNK after a short period of time. Will NOT STAY UPRIGHT |
I love how it cleans. It could move and glide a bit better, but the real problem is that this Vacuum DOES NOT STAY UPRIGHT AND KEEPS FALLING OVER, even when off and wrapping up the cord unless you use another hand to hold it. |

Where is the power suction everyone talks about?!? |
I bought this vacuum (NV 502) model based on reviews. I couldn't be happier about its attachments and the choice to use it as a canister, upright or even carry it around. Once I plugged it I realized this vacuum is so quiet because there is no suction!!! I am so disappointed, I will definitely return it. My European experience is completely different. Nothing is sold without the power suction information (in Watts). A good vacuum cleaner sticks to the floor while working and requires some serious effort to pick it up, not to mention that if by accident a piece of fabric is close to the vacuum someone would need two hands to get it out!! Yes, you can roll the vacuum on the floor and no hair or dust is left behind. A fair price for 1200 Watts like Shark is less than 120 Euros. My Europea... |

Don't buy one. They are hard to use. Have a electrocution wands recalled April 22nd 2015 |
Bought a pet hair lift away upright.NV650W The portable trolley never unlocked it self. So never used that. Only have 2 rugs and stairs. ON off switch too hard to switch , it hurt my thumb. It only has one speed and sucks too fast, sucks up plastic bags or dy cleaner hanging bags and I cannot shut off in time. I am asthmatic, cleaning out dust bin is really a drag.. My daughter owns a Miele has different speeds, completely enclosed and uses bags. . Going to return this damn thing and get a Miele. 1000 % better. I am so sad that now that THE WAND CAN SHOCK OR ELECTROCUTE YOU. I DONT want my monster lift away. NOW THAT IT GIVES OFF electronic shocks, Today made my decision final. I am buying a.Miele even though I spent nearly $500 o n this awful machine Jan 11th 2015. I use my tiny... |

not pleased with |
The 2 most glaring faults with the Shark Rotator are the constant tipping of the vacuum and the cord being constantly in the way---the lack of a rewind. The price is no bargain, either |

I am very pleased with my purchase. I have used the vacuum on carpet, tile, and my furniture. It cleans exceptionally well.\n\nI would recommend this vacuum to everyone. The lift away feature is great for stairs. |

All you people that are degrading the Dyson vac, we have had the DC-14 Dyson for 14 years and it still works like new. We have had shark products before and after a year that suck.\n\nI would never buy another shark product. |

Bagless, how about gagless??? |
Pet peeve: What IS it with these new vacuum cleaners with no disposable bag? These new anti-allergin HEPA bragging gadgets are fine until you have to empty them, and POOF! You're face is puffing up, your eyes and nose watering and exposed skin getting all itchy! Avoid these at any cost if YOU are allergic to dust and pet dander. Yeah, this Shark works great -until I empty it!!! |
